Theory of Optimal Diets
In 1966 LH. MacArthur and ER. Pianka published a short paper’ containing a graphical model of how the diet of a resident species might change in response to invasion by a competitor species. The logic was based on the assumptions that the invading species wouldalter the availability of food and each species would attempt to maximize its own rate of intake given the availability of its preferred...
متن کاملHow Good are Optimal Cake Divisions?
We consider the problem of selecting fair divisions of a heterogeneous divisible good among a set of agents. Recent work (Cohler et al., AAAI 2011) focused on designing algorithms for computing optimal—social welfare maximizing (maxsum)—allocations under the fairness notion of envyfreeness. Maxsum allocations can also be found under alternative notions such as equitability. In this paper, we as...
متن کاملWhich Neural Signals are Optimal for Brain-Computer Interface Control?
We compared the encoding and decoding performance of several intracortical neural signals—single units, multi-units, and band-limited local field potential (LFP) power—within an eye movement brain-computer interface (BCI) paradigm. We find that broadband high-frequency LFPs exhibit the best performance, and may be an easily obtainable, high-performance signal for BCI applications.
متن کاملThe Ackermann functions are not optimal, but by how much?
By taking a closer look at the construction of an Ackermann function we see that between any primitive recursive degree and its Ackermann modification there is a dense chain of primitive recursive degrees.
متن کاملOptimal Computer Crash Performance Precaution
We thus define a tolerance level r meaning that we only tolerate that the completion time of a parallel program after a crash is at most a factor r + 1 larger than if we use optimal allocation on m− 1 computers. This is an r-dependent restriction of the set of allocations of a program. Then, what is the worst-case ratio of the optimal r-dependent completion time in the case of no crash and the ...
